How to choose
- WireGuard: faster, more power-efficient, quicker handshake — best for mobile;
- OpenVPN: more mature, broader compatibility, easier to traverse restricted networks;
- Use WireGuard day-to-day, fall back to OpenVPN when you can't connect.
Both protocols use strong, widely-vetted encryption. Most users get the best experience leaving the default (WireGuard) on.
